Hello, my name is Gigi Smith-Bromage. I escort Insight Vacations discovery tours to Western Europe. I have been a Tour Director for over 20 years.

Although my job takes me through many countries in Europe, my favourite destination has to be Italy or France because of the diversity of each region from the stunning landscapes to the wonderful cuisine. The small villages of France and Italy are some of Europe’s best keep secrets!

Being a Tour Director gives me a great opportunity to interact with my guests and to meet an array of people from all over the world. I enjoy taking guests to the sights that some people wait a lifetime to see such as the Sistine Chapel or the canals of Venice.

When escorting tours I love to talk about everyday life through the eyes of the locals so my guests can get a real understanding of the cultures in different countries. History and architecture are also important as it tells such interesting stories and gives people a greater appreciation for the sights they are visiting.

One of my best memories on tour is taking guests to see Venice by night on a beautiful summer evening and watching the sunset on Piazza San Marco as an orchestra played Vivaldi’s 4 Seasons and we sipped gorgeous cappuccino. These moments are purely magical and the memories last a lifetime.

Trying the local specialities is a must when you travel to different countries. I always recommend that guests try ice cream in Italy, Aperitif in a French café, Procescco on a local piazza and a cappuccino anywhere in Italy.

My advice for guests would be to travel with an open mind and a positive attitude and practical advice would be to remember extra batteries for your camera and make sure you know your PIN numbers for ATMs. You wouldn’t want to come to Europe and miss an opportunity to take photos or to shop!
