Encounters

Welcome to Encounters—a collection of compelling stories, videos, and photography spotlighting unique individuals, cultures, and environments from diverse and inspiring destinations around the world. The current Encounters destination is Alaska, USA.

OUR MOST RECENT ENCOUNTER: ALASKA, USA

Alaska is the largest and least densely populated state in the U.S. – a formidable swathe of mountain ranges, forests, ice sheets and tundra that lend it the moniker of ‘The Last Frontier’. To thrive in Alaska requires, at the very least, resilience, ingenuity and fortitude. You’ll find all these are present (as well as humor, compassion and a dash of eccentricity) in the people we meet in this edition of Encounters, from legendary figures in the world of sled-dog racing to the people protecting Alaska’s endangered wildlife.

In the dogs' minds, I'm just one of them. They really don't understand that I don't have four legs and a fluffy tail that I can wag.
