To make the most of your visit, here is what 48 hours in this cosmopolitan capital looks like with Insight:<\/p>\n

DAY 1<\/h2>\n

AM: EXPLORE WITH A LOCAL EXPERT<\/em><\/h3>\n

What better way to explore Moscow than with a knowledgable Local Expert? Start in Red Square, lined by Moscow’s landmark buildings. At one end rises the onion-shaped domes of St. Basil’s Cathedral. Built in 1561, this impressive building is not only one of the most iconic symbols of the city but of the country too.<\/p>\n

Later head to Lenin\u2019s Mausoleum. Situated in Red Square, it is the resting place of Soviet leader Vladimir Lenin. Opposite the mausoleum, you\u2019ll find the grand GUM department store, which offers a variety of glamorous goods and is somewhere to keep in mind for your free time in the city.<\/p>\n

PM: VISIT ONE OF THE CITY\u2019S OPULENT TRAIN STATIONS<\/em><\/h3>\n

During your stay, you will visit one of the Metro stations, which Stalin called \u2018Palaces for the People.’ Once here you\u2019ll gain a local insight into the themes depicted among the marble, mosaics, sculptures and chandeliers of these ‘underground museums.’<\/p>\n

PM: FREE TIME<\/em><\/h3>\n

Make the most of your free time in the capital and perhaps witness the crown jewels and Faberg\u00e9 Egg collection of the Imperial Russian Family at the Kremlin Royal Treasure House. One of the most famous pieces in the collection is an egg with a model\u00a0of the ‘Memory of the Azov’ Cruiser. Dark green and decorated with diamond-studded gold scrolls, \u00a0it was a present from Emperor Alexander III to Empress Maria Fyodorovna.<\/p>\n

Day 2<\/h2>\n

AM: FREE TIME<\/em><\/h3>\n

Start your second day at leisure and explore the Russian capital as you wish. Perhaps head shopping and see what finds Moscow has to offer. Two major shopping centers include GUM and Okhotny Ryad. If taking in the city\u2019s art and culture is more your thing, visit the Borodino Panorama Exhibition or take an Optional Experience to the renowned centre of ancient Russian art and architecture, Zagorsk.<\/p>\n
