For someone that has worked in the travel industry for over 30 years<\/span>\u00a0and has had<\/span>\u00a0the great fortune of traveling to many unique and memorable destinations<\/span>, I never expect to \u201cre-discover travel\u201d.\u00a0<\/span>My travels have expanded my knowledge and appreciation of the beauty, history and culture of some of the most beautiful countries in the world<\/span>, and I thought I had it all figured out.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

But upon joining Insight Vacations in 2018, I got to join guests on the\u00a0<\/span>\u201cHighlights of Spain\u201d<\/span><\/a>\u00a0trip<\/span>\u00a0and experienced a new way to trave<\/span>l.\u00a0<\/span>Traveling on our customized coach, staying at premium hotels\u00a0<\/span>took away the stress we often endure when traveling. Each day, the transition was easy and smooth allowing me to focus on discovering the true culture of this historically breath-taking country on Insight experiences\u00a0<\/span>and enjoying<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>delicious,\u00a0<\/span>authentic<\/span>\u00a0dining.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>True to its name, this escorted journey showcases the best that Spain has to offer: the Alhambra, the modernist architecture of Barcelona, Madrid’s Prado Museum<\/span>\u00a0and<\/span>\u00a0the\u00a0<\/span>Andalucian<\/span>\u00a0capital of Seville<\/span>. You hop from city to city, but what I got was much more than a \u201ctaste\u201d. The depth and knowledge\u00a0<\/span>our Travel Director, Maria, and our local expert<\/span>s<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>imparted\u00a0<\/span>on us left me having felt, tasted and live<\/span>d<\/span>\u00a0Spain in all its richness.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Perhaps,\u00a0<\/span>my most memorable experience<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>and\u00a0<\/span>was visiting<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Cordoba’s\u00a0<\/span><\/b>Mezquita<\/span><\/b>\u00a0mosque.\u202f<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Mosque-Cathedral is an architectural masterpiece but upon seeing it with my own eyes, it is impossible to overemphasize the beauty of C\u00f3rdoba\u2019s great mosque, with its remarkably serene and spiritual interior.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

\u202f<\/span>One of the world’s greatest works of Islamic architecture, the\u00a0<\/span>Mezquita<\/span>\u00a0hints, with all its lustrous decoration, at a refined age when Muslims, Jews and Christians lived side by side and enriched their city with a heady interaction of diverse, vibrant cultures.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u202f<\/span>Our experienced Travel Director<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0Maria<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0and our Local Expert, guided our group through the lovely courtyard,\u202f\u00a0<\/span>Patio de los\u00a0<\/span><\/b>Naranjos<\/span><\/b>, <\/span><\/b>with its orange, palm and cypress trees and fountains which forms the entrance to the <\/span>Mezquita<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Entering the <\/span>mosque,<\/span>\u00a0we were wowed by the\u00a0<\/span>Mezquita\u2019s<\/span>\u00a0architectural uniqueness and importance which lies in the fact that, structurally speaking, it was a revolutionary building for its time. It was absolutely breath<\/span>–<\/span>taking absorbing the meaning of the Islamic and Christian features of the building, while listening and feeling the passion our local historian, as she spoke and walked us though\u00a0<\/span>its\u00a0<\/span>history<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>– the famous arches and pillars, which are the most notable features of its time<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I never thought that after 30 years\u00a0<\/span>working in travel and traveling myself, I could still learn new ways to travel \u2013 but Insight Vacations did, and I am so glad to be a part of it!\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
