I\u2019ve been working in varying roles in the travel industry for some 25 years. In that time I have learnt two things, firstly that my passion for travel will never wane\u00a0<\/span><\/span>(and that\u00a0<\/span><\/span>it is a privilege we can\u2019t take for granted)\u00a0<\/span><\/span>and secondly that you must always expect the unexpected when working in the sector! Admittedly 2020 threw us some pretty big curveballs but the two lessons above have never\u00a0<\/span><\/span>rung<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>truer<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>
\n<\/p>\n

Insight Vacations – Italian Elegance<\/span><\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Back in autumn,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>as European borders were<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>opening up and we enjoyed some COVID-calm moments, I was fortunate to spend a few days in Venice with my family.\u00a0<\/span>D<\/span>usting off that passport after not having traveled for several months and the\u00a0<\/span>anticipation of what was to come was very powerful<\/span>\u00a0and made me realize how much I missed travel.\u00a0<\/span>The excitement in our house was palpable.\u00a0<\/span>I love Venice \u2013 always have, always will but<\/span>\u00a0taking my kids there for their first visit when it wasn\u2019t crowded made it even more special.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

We stayed in\u00a0<\/span>one of\u00a0<\/span>my\u00a0<\/span>favorite<\/span>\u00a0hotel<\/span>s in Venice<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>The Splendid<\/strong><\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/span>which is\u00a0<\/span>also beloved by our Insight Vacations guests<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Staying right in the heart of Venice, a stone\u2019s throw from St. Mark\u2019s and arriving at your hotel by water taxi never disappoints!\u00a0<\/span>The<\/span>\u00a0team was fantastic as always and the Covid-19 protocols were brilliant, and we felt perfectly at ease at all time<\/span>s<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>In my mind, there is only one \u2018right way\u2019 to do Venice and that is to stay at one of the hotels right on Venice Island instead of staying on the mainland<\/span>. Being able to stroll through the narrow alleyways at night and being there when Venice comes into its own, is truly magical.\u00a0<\/span>At Insight Vacations, we would never do it any other way.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In the picture below you can see my family in St Mark\u2019s square in Venice just before we sat down at Caf\u00e9 Florian to enjoy a Bellini and a mocktail for the boys at dusk with very few people.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Another highlight, and my younger son\u2019s\u00a0<\/span>favorite<\/span>\u00a0experience, was\u00a0<\/span>visiting one of the traditional glass workshops on Murano Island and watching the artisans at work. He loved it so much that his current career\u00a0<\/span>aspiration is\u00a0<\/span>to become<\/span>\u00a0a glass blower!\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Our trip to Burano with its\u00a0<\/span>colorful<\/span>\u00a0houses and trying to spot houses in our\u00a0<\/span>favorite<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>colors<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>and eating a gelato or two a day were other highlights.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
