A visit to sun-drenched Dubrovnik, pressed up against Croatia\u2019s stunning Adriatic coast, is like taking a step back in time. Dubrovnik’s Old town is surrounded by stone walls that were built between the 11th and 17th centuries.<\/p>\n

Dubrovnik\u2019s Cultural History Museum<\/a> is housed in a stunning Gothic-Renaissance building in the heart of the old town, which dates from the 15th century. With around 20,000 objects, it covers the full spectrum of the city\u2019s history and culture. The Museum of Modern Art Dubrovnik<\/a>\u2019s permanent collection covers painting, sculpture and prints from the end of the 19th century to WWII. Including from one of Croatia\u2019s most famous artists, Vlaho Buhovac. Learn about Dubrovnik\u2019s remarkable seafaring history at the Maritime Museum<\/a>, or visit the Red Museum<\/a> for a good, honest look at Croatia\u2019s recent past, examining its spell under Communism while part of the former Yugoslavia.<\/p>\n

Situated within the walls of Vatican City, the museums\u2019 collections consist of over 70,000 paintings and sculptures, displayed in over 54 galleries. The most famous being the Sistine Chapel, one of the absolute masterpieces of modern art. Here you can see Michelangelo’s frescoes of the Creation of Adam and the Last Judgment and works by Pietro Perugino, Sandro Botticelli and Domenico Ghirlandaio.<\/p>\n
