Author George Orwell (real name of Eric Blair) lived on the island of Jura for three years, which he described as an \u201cun-get-at-able place\u201d. Jura’s isolation is still what draws visitors to the island, though it’s slightly more “get-at-able” now with a ferry running from Kennacraig. Fewer than 200 people live on Jura, who are outnumbered by the island’s 5,000 or so deer.<\/span> The Paps of Jura are three mountains on the western side of the island of Jura, which are well worth the hike for the views from the top.<\/span><\/p>\n
