Relax and immerse yourself in three of Spain's most contrasting and cultural cities. Vibrant Barcelona, idyllic San Sebastián and historic Madrid

  1. Day 1

    Your Journey Begins

Board your overnight flight to Europe (Please ask about our great deals).

  2. Day 2

    Welcome to Barcelona.

Airport transfers depart from Barcelona airport for your hotel at 09:30, 12:30 and 15:00. Join your Travel Director at 18:00 for a Welcome Dinner at a local restaurant, as you get to know your fellow travellers over good food and wine.

  3. Day 3 - Relaxed Start

    Exploring Catalonia’s Creative Capital.

The lively port of Barcelona boasts an impressive Old Town, although it’s the daring architecture of the Catalan Art Nouveau that really sets it apart. Sightseeing with your Local Expert begins in the medieval maze of the Barri Gotic, the Gothic Quarter, a tangle of streets and squares just behind the old cathedral. Travel down the gracious Passeig de Gràcia, past the wrought-iron street lamps. Continue on to Gaudí's Sagrada Família, the leviathan of the Eixample, where giant mosaic spires pierce the sky like a jewelled crown. Inside, a tree canopy carved from stone, holds up the roof while sun pours through stained glass on to sea creature caverns. Then you are free to explore this amazing city at your own pace.

  4. Day 4 - Relaxed Start

    Barcelona at Leisure.

(Relaxed Start) Enjoy a relaxed start and a full day at leisure to explore Spain's most vibrant city. Consider a stroll along the famous Las Ramblas or explore Gaudi's fascinating Güell Park. Perhaps you would like to ascend the sacred mountain of Montserrat, Catalonia's most important pilgrimage site for a thousand years? On this Optional Excursion enjoy spectacular panoramic views and a light tapas lunch.

  5. Day 5

    Pamplona and San Sebastián.

Journey west to Zaragoza where the four towers of El Pilar soar over the banks of the mighty Río Ebro. Continue to Pamplona in the region of Navarre, famous for the Running of the Bulls festival. With free time to explore as you wish, perhaps stroll to the famous Estafeta Street. Travel to the aristocratic seaside resort of San Sebastián. Northern Spain’s Basque country has evolved into the best place to eat in the Western world, so in the evening, discover the city’s rich gastronomic tradition in the heart of Lo Viejo, the Old Town. Here you will have a chance to explore the Old Town in small groups during your progressive Highlight Dinner with the locals, as you enjoy the gastronomic Basque tradition of pintxos. Similar to tapas, enjoy a variety of snack-sized treats to make your meal and be sure to try some of the local Txakoli wine. ¡Que aproveche!

  6. Day 6 - Relaxed Start

    Bilbao and Guggenheim.

Few places have been able to reinvent themselves quite like Bilbao. The former industrial city has changed its ways and is now a pin-up for urban redevelopment. Your fascinating venture here includes a visit to Bilbao's sensuous, rippling, Guggenheim Museum, designed by the North American architect Frank O. Gehry. On return, join a Local Expert to admire San Sebastián and the crescent-shaped La Concha Bay from the heights of Monte Igueldo. After taking in the amazing views, enjoy a guided tour of the Old Quarter. See the numbered balconies of the Plaza de la Constitución, a reminder of the days when bullfights were held in the square.

  7. Day 7 - Relaxed Start

San Sebastián, Pearl of the Cantabrian Coast.

(Relaxed Start) Enjoy a day at leisure to stroll along San Sebastián's boardwalk. The harbour is filled with fishing boats and pleasure crafts, so you can enjoy a number of sporting activities on its large sandy beach. Perhaps explore the nearby French village of Saint-Jean-de-Luz, known as the Jewel of the Basque Country? During this Optional Experience you will explore this town with a Local Expert and visit the church where The Sun King, Louis XIV, married the Spanish princess Maria Teresa.

  8. Day 8 - Relaxed Start

    Burgos and Madrid.

(Relaxed Start) Journey south through the Pyrenees foothills and the land of 'El Cid' to stop in Burgos where you can see his burial place in the cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Continue along the Guadarrama Mountains to the plateau of New Castile and Spain's elegant capital of Madrid. In the evening, why not see the city lit up it all its glory, with a drive along the grand avenues and past the spectacular fountains?

  9. Day 9 - Relaxed Start

The Elegant Spanish Capital of Madrid.

Your Local Expert will show you the Royal Palace, the monument to Cervantes in the Plaza de España, the grandiose Cibeles Fountain, Parliament and Puerta del Sol. Then enjoy a highlight visit to the palatial Prado Museum, one of the world’s greatest art galleries with works by El Greco, Velázquez, Goya, as well as Italian and Dutch masters. With the afternoon free for you to continue exploring as you wish. Perhaps travel to Segovia to join a Local Expert and visit the 14th century Alcazar to see painting, tapestries, weaponry and armoury of the Spanish medieval era and enjoy a panoramic drive for stunning views over the Eresma Valley?

  10. Day 10 - Relaxed Start

    The Cobbled Streets of Toledo.

(Relaxed Start) Venture south to visit the fascinating city of Toledo, situated high above the River Tagus. This was Spain's capital during the golden era, where Arab, Jewish and Christian cultures flourished side-by-side through the Middle Ages. Walk within the city walls, through the narrow cobbled streets, led by your a Local Expert. Visit the Church of Santo Tomé, housing El Greco's famous painting, 'The Burial of the Count of Orgaz'. On return to Madrid, the afternoon is free for last-minute shopping. Service: I thought our guide really connected with the travellers well, loved the video she put together for us. One thing that wasn't so great...we asked about tickets to the Palace and she was going to check it out for us but she never got back to us. Suggestions for improvement...as a someone who doesn't drink wine or beer it was frustrating that I always had to purchase my own drink (alcoholic) if I wanted one. It would have been nice to have a free drink of my own choosing every now and again. The cost of the wine/beer is incorporated into the price of the tour, but as I didn't indulge it ultimately bothered me that I paid for something I did not use. Also two out of the three hotels we stayed at were DIRTY, REALLY DIRTY. This really overshadowed a lot of the nicer aspects of the trip for me. It certainly does not reflect well on Insight Vacations that this is what the hotels were like. I had wanted to speak to Insight directly about this and asked them to contact me in their review that they handed out on the bus but it is now months after the tour and no one has been in touch. That also reflects poorly on them. If I cared enough to ask them to contact me, you would think they would care enough to do so.

Trip: I misunderstood what "easy pace" meant, and thought there would be more 'down time' during the trip. Actually, there would have been but we chose to do all the 'add-ons' . the choices for the itinerary were excellent....well thought out.

Service: The trip was marvelous....well planned and executed, with a big shout-out to Dawn, our leader. Also, the local guides were excellent. Dawn is a delight, and goes the extra mile for everyone, and is very caring as well.

Trip: Loved all three stays in Spain!

Service: I love the Easy Pace. I liked everything about the trip except for two things: On the other two Easy Pace trips we've taken with Insight, we appreciated having time to do some independent explorations. We had very little opportunity to do that on this trip. The other issue was that a couple of the local guides left us very little time to be on our own.

    TRIP:
    SERVICE:

Trip: We loved that we had at least 3 days at each of the cities we would be touring. We didn't have a ton of coach travel on a daily basis. We did take almost all the optional excursions, however, so we were busy all day and night, but we were able to return to our hotel to sleep which was relaxing.

Service: All the documents arrived on time and explained everything we needed to know prior to arriving at our destination, Our lovely tour guide, Sabrina, emailed us and also reviewed what we needed to know and gave us her phone and email info so we could contact her at any time.

    TRIP:
    SERVICE:

Trip: We chose this tour because it spent three days in each city instead of rushing through a half dozen cities in the same time. But with the stops we made in different cities on our travel days, and the included and optional excursions we took, we got to see quite a bit more than we initially thought we would. Loved it.

Service: We were quite pleased with our Travel director Sabrina Tsimonidis and our coach driver Rui. They were the only direct contact we had with Insight Vacations and they were great. Sabrina was smart, funny, informative, organized and wonderful at keeping the tour both enjoyable and insightful. I can't say enough good things about her. Rui, who like some great futbol players goes by only one name, was smooth, polite and helpful.
