  1. Day 1

    Your Journey Begins

Board your overnight flight to Europe (Please ask about our great deals).

  2. Day 2

    Welcome to Budapest.

On arrival at Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport, there are complimentary transfers to your hotel at 10:00, 13:00 and 15:30. Join your Travel Director at 18:00 and travel to the famous and elegant Gundel Restaurant. Your Welcome Dinner is a treat of mouthwatering Hungarian specialties, accompanied by specially-selected Hungarian wine.

Stroll through the alleys of the Old Town of Buda with a Local Expert. Admire the facade of Matthias Church and take in the view from the Fisherman’s Bastion. Enjoy a short drive following the Danube and arrive at Gellért Hill. From the top, appreciate astounding panoramic views presided over by the Liberty Statue. Across the river, back in Pest, visit Heroes’ Square. The rest of the day is yours to browse the boutiques of Vaci Street. In the evening, perhaps choose an Optional Experience to see this fairy-tale city as you cruise along the Danube and enjoy a meal of Hungarian specialties, served with drinks?

  4. Day 4

Through the Low Tatra Mountains to Kraków.

Take a gentle drive into Slovakia and through the breathtaking Low Tatra Mountains, where villagers still live in traditional wooden houses. Stop at Donovaly, the most famous winter resort in the country and known as the Slovakian St. Moritz. Continue north to see the picturesque Oravský Hrad Castle before crossing into Poland and continuing to historic Kraków.

  5. Day 5 - Relaxed Start

The Damsels and Dragons of Kraków.

(Relaxed Start) Perhaps visit the Wieliczka Salt Mine in the morning? Later, join your Local Expert to explore Kraków, for centuries the seat of Poland's kings. Ascend Wawel Hill to visit the cathedral. Walk past the courtyard of Jagiellonian University through the Old Town, to Europe's largest and most beautiful town square. See the medieval Cloth Hall and visit the 14th century St. Mary's Church (keep your eyes and ears peeled for the trumpeter in the tower). Then enjoy free time to explore. Maybe visit the Renaissance Trading Hall, host to many merchant stalls, with the Gallery of the National Museum upstairs?

  6. Day 6

To Auschwitz, the Black Madonna of Częstochowa and Warsaw.

Stop with a Local Expert at Oświęcim, better known throughout the world by its German name, Auschwitz, the most infamous site of the Holocaust. Spend reflective moments amid the remains of the concentration camp and the memorials to those who died. Travel north to Częstochowa to visit the 14th century Monastery of Jasna Góra, famous for the Black Madonna, said to have been painted by St. Luke. Continue across the Polish plains to the country's capital, Warsaw for the night. Dumplings are an Eastern European tradition, so in the evening enjoy a dumpling demonstration and degustation at Zapiecek restaurant in the Old Town. Once this culinary high art has been mastered, enjoy a delicious Highlight Dinner featuring succulent local dishes.

Spend the afternoon at leisure, shopping in the KaDeWe Department Store or exploring the new, vibrant Potsdamer Platz.

  10. Day 10

Baroque Dresden and on to Golden Prague.

Journey south to Dresden. Almost totally destroyed by horrific air raids in 1945, Dresden has now risen again from the ashes in a blend of old and new. See the reconstructed Frauenkirche and walk past the colossal 'Procession of the Dukes' on the wall of the Royal Palace. Venture around the Catholic cathedral to view the tiered facades of the opera house, Semperoper, and the Baroque Zwinger Palace. Prague has blossomed since the Velvet Revolution, but its unique character remains unchanged. A Local Expert will show you the amazing St. Vitus' Cathedral inside the 1,000-year-old Prague Castle. With a Local Expert, visit the fairy-tale red-roofed castle, considered by many to be the finest in the land. Your hotel is one of the most charming in the Czech Republic, set in a former 16th century Jesuit dormitory in the historic town centre. When all the day trippers have left, soak up the unique atmosphere of this UNESCO World Heritage Site on your Dine-Around Evening. You will be offered a selection of restaurants amid the tangle of streets, high-gabled houses and old squares.

  13. Day 13 - Relaxed Start

    Stately Vienna.

(Relaxed Start) Cross the border into Austria and enjoy a delightful journey to Vienna. The afternoon is free for you to explore this stately capital and later why not enjoy a delightful Austrian meal with the option to dine at a country mansion?

  14. Day 14

    The Habsburgs of Vienna.

Vienna owes much of its present-day charm to the long reign of the Habsburgs. Join your Local Expert for a private visit of Maria Theresa's Schönbrunn Palace and its formal gardens. Then, take some great photos on a circuit of the famous Ring Road. This grand boulevard, built along the lines of the old city walls, showcases many of the capital's architectural masterpieces, including the Opera House, magnificent Hofburg Imperial Residence, Austrian Parliament Building and Karlskirche. TRIP:
    SERVICE:

Trip: It is a whirlwind and the drives to Warsaw and Berlin are fairly long. But getting to see Budapest, Krakow, Warsaw, Berlin, Prague and Vienna in a single trip was exactly what I was looking for.

Service: We got off to a rocky start as Insight didn't get the legal name correct for one member of our party. It took a little effort for our travel agent to get Insight to correct the mistake. Other than that all was fantastic, but that was too big of an issue to give a 5-Star.

    TRIP:
    SERVICE:

Trip: We went to all of the places I wanted to see. The tour director (Steve) gave excellent history lessons on the coach. This was supplemented by very good city guides. Got to walk around a lot at the key places, instead of just driving past them.

Service: Everything went very smoothly. The materials arrived a few weeks before we left. The tour director (Steve) and driver (Joseph) were outstanding.

Trip: We visited interesting big cities and also small towns along the way.

Service: We have vacationed with Insight 4 times now. We continue to get very good value for our money spent. Our Tour Director Heinz Karner was great. He really cares about his guests having a wonderful vacation experience so he does those extra things to make the experience special.

    TRIP:
    SERVICE:

Trip: I fely some of the included meals were rushed and the food was poor quality

Service: I swore I would never do another insight vacation after a bad experience 13 years ago. My sister convinced me to do a highlights of Eastern Europe trip. The included tours were excellent and I did most of the optional tours. The included meals varied. Some were very good . The Mecure in Krakow and the first one in budapest, also the last in Vienna, however the others I felt were very rushed and the food poor quality. The accomadation was varied and in good locations. loved The Ruze in Cesky Irina our guide I cannot praise enough. She was professional, highly orgainized with a lovely sense of humour. She went beyond what I would expect. Videos for long trips in the bus. Little language cheat sheets and videos of countries we were visiting. Quiet classical music to rest. A tour director can make or break a trip and she was fantastic. One optional tour I felt was a bit of a money grab was the optional tour in Berlin to see the wall and the Jewish monument. This I felt could have been included in the morning included tour as it took us back to the same area we had been in that morning. I ahd a fantastic time and would look at insight again if the quality of guides was like Irina

    TRIP:
    SERVICE:

Trip: I chose this tour because it gave 2 nights in each location (except 1). It covered a lot of ground and countries and gave me a touch of each... so I know where to go back to in depth.

Service: Tour director Greg was well organised, courteous, helpful and very knowledgeable about all areas we visited. Driver was careful, punctual and courteous

    TRIP:
    SERVICE:

Trip: Saw many great places - would have enjoyed longer free time

Service: Included tours were all very similar - no variety. Would go again however. Tour guide (Heinz) was great.

  • 15 September, 2018

    TRIP:
    SERVICE:

Trip: Some of the cities needed an extra day as we arrived late in the day after travelling most of the day. Also a few more late starts would be nice but I understand that it is good to get to heavily visited sites early before the crowds.

Service: The guide and bus driver were amazing and yes, I would use Insight again. Hotels were excellent. I would like to see fewer optional excursions that add extra costs to the trip after having paid for what I thought was a complete package. Nice to have optional side excursions but only the optional meals should be an extra cost.

    TRIP:
    SERVICE:

Trip: See above, ie, time in Berlin

Service: The door to door service was up to your usual standard, the destinations chosen were where we wanted to go. But omitting the visit to the Berlin Wall was disappointing, when we had to pay to visit that important area of our history. The night High Lights of Prague was very unsafe due to the weather and lack of lighting especially up and down very wet slippery steps. Also the hotel in Berlin was so far from the city, which made it impossible to spend our spare time at special areas which were import to us.
