See the exuberantly-decorated apartments including the Throne Room and Lohengrin Grotto. On return to Munich, the rest of the day is free for you to explore Bavaria's capital city. Perhaps visit one of its many art galleries and museums, or relax and enjoy a coffee in the delightful Marienplatz?

  5. Day 5

    Salzburg, the City of Mozart.

A short drive over the Austrian border leads to Salzburg, 'alive with the sound of music.' Join your Local Expert who will show you the formal gardens of Mirabell Palace, Residenzplatz, the city's imposing fortress, the immense cathedral in the Old Town and Mozart’s birthplace on the lively Getreidegasse. With the afternoon at your leisure, perhaps take an optional experience to Hilter’s notorious Eagle's Nest? Later, join your travel companions and venture to Lenzenbauer, a delightful Austrian farm, just outside the city. Enjoy a homemade schnapps before a member of the Golser family shows you around some of the property that has been in their family for three generations. You'll then sit down to a delicious Farm-to-Table meal of homemade spreads and homemade bread, roast pork or vegetable rosti served with salads and finish with a local speciality typical of the region for dessert. With the produce coming straight from the farm, it doesn't get more fresh or authentic than this! All this is accompanied by a choice of homemade beverages including fresh apple or elderflower juice and apple cider produced on the farm, or beer.

  6. Day 6

    Wachau Valley and Vienna.

In Mondsee marvel at the church featured in 'The Sound of Music' before continuing on through Melk to the beautiful Wachau Valley and onto the Austrian capital of Vienna.

Marvel at its frescoed ceilings, crystal chandeliers, mirrors and gilded ornaments, before spending some time in the perfectly-manicured gardens. Then see the city's many highlights, including St. Charles' Church, the Hofburg Palace, Parliament and State Opera House. Enjoy the rest of the afternoon at your leisure for further exploration.

  8. Day 8

    Sleepy Austrian Byways to Villach.

Take a delightful drive through undiscovered Austria. Climb the dramatic Semmering Pass and stop in Kindberg with its colourful maypole. Continue south to the border to arrive in Villach, a town rich in contrasts as tradition blends with trendiness, historically a gateway between the Alps and southern Austria, with a touch of la dolce vita influenced by neighbouring Italy.

  9. Day 9

    The Dolomites to Innsbruck.

Journey to the charming Alpine city of Innsbruck, set in a valley of snow-capped mountain peaks. Your Travel Director provides an orientation of the city to see its 14th century houses of the Old Town, the impressive Imperial Palace and the delightful Golden Roof. You may even choose to step aboard the Bernina Express to experience one of Europe's most outstanding train journeys.

  11. Day 11

All aboard the Glacier Express and on to Lucerne.

Embark on an iconic train journey aboard the Glacier Express, as you take in vistas of ice-capped mountains, stone-built villages and lush meadows. Ascend through the spiral tunnels of the Albula Pass and cross the Landwasser Viaduct before heading down through the Oberalp Valley to rejoin the coach at Andermatt. Continue north to lovely Lucerne, one of Europe’s most popular cities set on the banks of Lake Lucerne. Join your Travel Director to see the sorrowful sculpture of the dying lion, cut out of a limestone cliff to commemorate the Swiss Guards who died at the Battle of the Tuileries.

  12. Day 12 - Relaxed Start

Dinner at the ‘Roof of Europe’ in Stanserhorn.

Enjoy the morning at your leisure to explore the city's 14th century covered wooden bridges, painted gables, old walls and watch towers of the medieval fortifications. Later, head to the town of Stans where you'll embark on a scenic journey by funicular railway and cable car, to the summit of the stunning Stanserhorn. On a clear day there are views as far as Alsace in France and the Black Forest in Germany. Here amid true Alpine majesty, your journey literally peaks with an unforgettable Celebration Dinner, hosted in Drehrestaurant Rondorama, located atop the mountain. Enjoy a glass of sparkling and admire the stunning 360 degree views as Drehrestaurant Rondorama slowly rotates throughout the evening, ensuring you don't miss a thing. TRIP:
    SERVICE:

Trip: We visited many landmarks and highlights in each country. Loved everything we did, would have enjoyed a little more time in Innsbruck and Saltzburg. Perhaps fewer hotel changes would have made it more relaxing. Lot of travel time throughout tour.

Service: Our tour director and local guides were very good and knowledgeable. Great tour, so many wonderful places and experiences. Most excursions were very good although on the expensive side. Would have preferred to continue on to Innsbruck rather than stop at spa hotel. Was disappointed the shops in Bavaria and St. Moritz were closed when we had a little free time to explore. Loved meeting new people on tour. Felt a bit rushed at times.

    TRIP:
    SERVICE:

Trip: The itinerary was very complete and included great sights and landscape. The only city I would exclude in the future was the Spa hotel outside of Villach. We were supposed to stay in Villach but could not due to a motorcycle convention so I don't know what Villach would have been like. But, the Spa hotel in the small town did not have anything particular for us to see or do. I would have preferred to press on for another couple of hours and gotten to spend two nights in Innsbruck.

Service: The trip was very well organized. Our tour director was very knowledgeable and kept us informed on our itinerary and what to expect. The coach was very comfortable and small enough to get to know everyone.

Trip: It was very good, but not excellent.

Service: Our guide handled all arrangements very well. Our guide was very knowledgeable about history, government and some other details, but did not give much information about what we where seeing as we rode along. He spent a lot of time handling paper or computer work.

    TRIP:
    SERVICE:

Trip: I enjoyed it even though it was a little hectic and we had too many dinners together. My biggest disappointment was in Munich. Our hotel was in Freising almost an hour away from Munich. There wasn’t much to do in Freising and we only got a few hours to spend in Munich. I think Insight should have provided a free shuttle to Munich because someone dropped the ball on the Munich hotel.

Service: The Tour guide Daniele went above and beyond to help everyone. He was very knowledgeable and had a lot of patience. He also made the trip fun. I also enjoyed the places we went and the excursions we went on

Service: Danielle, our tour guide was marvelous and Mandy, our driver, could not have been better.

    TRIP:
    SERVICE:

Trip: Loved most of the locations we went although not a fan of Vienna but I am more of a country girl rather than city girl.

Service: Our tour director, Matt, was awesome! He took the time to talk to each and every person multiple times. He provided insight/information when he could and if he didn’t know the answer to a question he would find out. Local experts were very helpful. Martina with the Dachau concentration camp was very knowledgeable and passionate. Krystian our coach driver in my opinion was the best driver. Never felt at risk or unsafe with his driving skills.
