At 17:30, join your Travel Director and fellow travellers for a Welcome Dinner with the opportunity to get to know each other over a pleasant evening.

  2. Day 2

In the morning, you will be joined by a Local Expert who guides you through the art collection of the Vatican Museums, culminating beneath Michelangelo’s famous ceiling in the Sistine Chapel. Your VIP visit includes fast-tracked entry and a behind-the-scenes look at the Bramante Staircase, part of the Vatican closed to the general public. Your venture continues inside St. Peter's Basilica to see Michelangelo's Pietà, and the splendid dome. There’s free time to do as the Romans do. Perhaps join a tour inside the Colosseum? Rome is about art, antiquity, piazzas and pizzazz, and our included walking exploration has it in abundance. Toss a coin into the spectacular Trevi Fountain, see the Pantheon, the best preserved monument from the Roman period, and enjoy free time in Piazza Navona.

  3. Day 3

    Pompeii and on to Sorrento.

Journey to the ancient Roman city of Pompeii, eerily preserved by the eruptions of Mount Vesuvius in AD79. Walk with a Local Expert through cobbled streets to explore some of the shops, villas and temples. Journey along the clifftop road to the picturesque resort of Sorrento, perched upon the southern cliffs of the Bay of Naples and looking over to Mount Vesuvius.

  4. Day 4

    Capri, the Isle of Dreams.

Meet your Local Expert and cross the Bay of Naples to reach the beautiful Isle of Capri, a rock rising sheer from the Mediterranean! For 2,000 years, Capri has beckoned visitors from Tiberius Caesar to Gracie Fields. Arriving at the Marina Grande by boat, ascend to Capri town by funicular railway and explore the narrow alleyways, browse in exclusive boutiques and wonder at the views over the Tyrrhenian Sea. Descend to the port in one of the island's iconic open-top taxis and return to Sorrento, where you are at leisure for the rest of the day.

  5. Day 5 - Relaxed Start

    The Picturesque Amalfi Coast.

Travel along Italy’s finest coastline, the Amalfi Coast. Stop to admire a view of the terraced houses of the artist's paradise of Positano, clinging to the cliff face, before boarding minibuses into the heart of the town. Take time to be tempted by the local boutiques.

Spend time gazing at the fountains and sculptures along the front of the Palazzo Vecchio. Wander the area around Santa Croce Basilica, famous for the quality of its luxury goods of gold and leather. Continue to Lucca, to view its churches, squares and palaces that are perfectly preserved within encircling medieval ramparts. Pause a while and taste the lavish loaves of buccellato, Lucca's sweet raisin anise bread, said to be a favourite of the ancient Roman army.

  12. Day 12

    Exploring the Cinque Terre.

Get ready to explore the Cinque Terre, or five villages, which for years were only accessible by foot. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is one of Italy's most beautiful landscapes. Join a Local Expert in one of the picturesque fishing villages, before cruising along the rugged coastline (weather permitting). There is plenty of time to explore the old medieval quarter and popular sandy beach before returning to your hotel in Lucca.

  13. Day 13

    Modena and on to Parma.

Visit one of Modena's top producers of authentic, traditional, artisan balsamic vinegar and take a master class to understand what makes this vinegar as expensive as top-rated wines. Move on to the Ferrari Museum in Maranello, for an insight into the iconic car brand that embodies the nation itself - fashionable, feisty and a touch flashy! Continue to the beautiful university town of Parma, world-famous for its local ham and cheese. To the tune of accompanying musicians, you will be serenaded through the atmospheric canals by gondola, past water-lapped doorways and Rococo palaces.

  15. Day 15 - Relaxed Start

Wake up ready to embrace this romantic city. Witness the art of glassblowing on a visit to a traditional arts centre on Giudecca Island and witness the glassblowing skills of local craftsmen.. Then only minutes away by private boat is St. Mark's Square, where the city's former wealth and power is evidenced by the riches of St. Mark's Basilica. Admire also the Doge's Palace and its adjoining Bridge of Sighs. The rest of the day is yours to spend at leisure. In the evening, cruise the islands of the Venetian lagoon to arrive at Burano, famous for its candy coloured houses. TRIP:
    SERVICE:

Trip: We were taken to places we never would have known about if we had done this trip ourselves. Beautiful places in Italy, where we felt we experienced the Italian culture, not just the tourist spots. Good pace and packed a lot into every day - particularly food and wine!

Service: I booked my Insight Vacation through Patrick at Flight Centre Brighton who recommended the Country Roads of Italy tour with Insight as it ticked every box for where we wanted to visit. We also wanted something effortless so we could just enjoy. From meeting our Tour Director Liz in Rome and our bus driver Natale, if was effortless all the way. Liz’s service was excellent. She knew all the locals, selected awesome experiences for us, organised surprises and nothing was a hassle. We had plenty of time on our own and Liz was there when we needed her. She took the thinking out of everything for us, we just had to turn up when she said and it was all organised. The skills of our bus driver Natale were outstanding. I will never know how he managed to navigate some of the streets in Italy but he did and felt safe at all times. An adventure I will remember forever, and friendships I will cherish. Thanks Liz, Natale our travelling friends and Insight!

    TRIP:
    SERVICE:

Trip: There was more depth to itinerary than on other trips.

Service: Detailed information arrived three weeks prior to our trip. Someone was visibly waiting for us at the airport after we picked up our luggage.

    TRIP:
    SERVICE:

Trip: Everything was really good except the tour of the winery. We did not go all the way to Italy to visit a small winery owned by someone in Ohio. Our purpose of the tour was to spend the time in Tuscany doing wine touring and tasting bathe tour lasted one hour it was more a sales pitch than anything else Also the colosseum should have been part of the included tours not an extra. There were too many optional excursions. We would rather pay more upfront than be surprised by the extra amount we were charged once we got there

Service: Our travel agent was excellent. Our tour guide was really efficient and accommodating.

    TRIP:
    SERVICE:

Trip: Loved the countryside and villages. A wonderful experience.

Service: I thought that the customer service was excellent. I have already paid a deposit for the Country Roads tour of Switzerland for 2019 and have spoken glowingly of the recent tours to friends at home. I would suggest that Insight provide a better name tag for its travellers - maybe with a magnetic backing instead of the current clip on type.

  • 03 November, 2018

    TRIP:
    SERVICE:

Trip: MOST DESTINATIONS WERE EXCELLENT, BUT COULD HAVE SKIPPED RADDA AND SPENT MORE TIME IN LUCCA & PARMA.

Service: GOOD OVERALL. WASTED TOO MUCH TIME ON LUNCH STOPS AND TRUCK STOPS ALONG HIGHWAYS. I WOULD HAVE LIKED MORE TIME TO SEE AND APPRECIATE ART, ARCHITECTURAL AND CULTURAL TREASURES AND IMPORTANT MUSEUMS. WOULD HAVE LIKED MORE TIME IN PARMA AND LUCCA. HOTELS SHOULD HAVE BEEN CLOSER TO THE CENTER OF TOWN ATTRACTIONS IN LUCCA AND SORRENTO. WE SHOULD HAVE STAYED OVERNIGHT IN SAN GIMIGNAN0 RATHER THAN RADDA.

    TRIP:
    SERVICE:

Trip: A couple of glitches with regard to meals. I believe it was Radda where the hotel food was subpar and final night in Venice where about a fourth of our group was isolated from the rest of the group in a small restaurant that was supposed to be our big celebration—this was unacceptable!

Service: Yes, very good service throughout the trip!
