Your Journey Begins

Welcome to Vienna.
At Vienna airport, transfers for your hotel leave at 10:00, 13:00 and 15:00. During Advent, the Austrian capital is a place of nostalgia and romance, with concerts, nativity displays and traditional Christmas Markets. Why not soak up the atmosphere or spend time in a pavement cafe? At 17:45, join your Travel Director and fellow guests and travel to a local restaurant for your Welcome Dinner.
The Habsburgs of Vienna and on to Budapest.
Vienna owes much of its present day charm to the long reign of the Habsburgs. Join your Local Expert for a private tour of Maria Theresa’s Schönbrunn Palace. Then get your camera ready for a circuit of the famous Ring Road. This grand boulevard is built along the lines of the old city walls and showcases many of the capital’s architectural masterpieces, including the Opera House and magnificent Hofburg Imperial Residence. Your journey continues to Budapest, the former second city of the mighty Habsburg Empire.
Budapest, Queen of the Danube.
(Relaxed Start) Stroll through the alleys of the Buda Castle District with your Local Expert. Admire the incredible interior decoration of Matthias Church and take in the view from the Fisherman's Bastion. Across the river in Pest, which is the commercial centre, see the grand Hungarian Parliament Building and visit Heroes' Square. Visit the First Strudel House in Pest to see experts at work, stretching the dough and filling the delicious treats, which are yours to taste with a rich, aromatic coffee. The rest of the day is free for you to browse the boutiques of Vaci Street. In December, the street is festively lit and the Christmas fair will be in full swing.
Historic Bratislava and medieval Prague.
Journey westward over the Slovakian border to arrive at the fortified capital, with the four-towered Bratislava Castle looming over the city. There's time to walk from the banks of the Danube to the Old Town’s historic squares and browse the market stalls. Continue through the wine-producing area of South Moravia to enter the forested countryside of Bohemia, dotted with peaceful lakes. Arrive at the historic capital of Prague, boasting one of the most beautiful and intact medieval centres in all of Europe.
(Relaxed Start) Enjoy a relaxed start before joining your Local Expert at the 1,000-year-old Prague Castle, dominated by the soaring spires of St. Vitus' Cathedral. Walk in the footsteps of kings, along cobbled streets past beautiful palaces for sweeping views of the city. Descend to the Old Town Square, where the mechanised antics of the Astronomical Clock’s glockenspiel delight onlookers every hour. In December, you may see children in traditional dress, dancing and singing at the Christmas Markets.
Colourful Český Krumlov and musical Vienna.
Travel south through the forested Bohemian countryside to Český Krumlov, nestled amid loops of the Vltava River. Wander through the cobblestone, traffic-free streets, back lanes and arch-covered footpaths, passing colourful houses that lead up to the finest castle in the land. On days when snow blankets the medieval buildings and wood smoke pervades the narrow streets, it’s a scene straight from a Christmas card. Your journey continues south as your return to Vienna. As night falls, experience an extraordinary concert of Viennese classical music. The best-loved works of Johann Strauss and Mozart, performed by highly acclaimed soloists and dancers, are combined with a delicious meal of traditional Austrian fare and accompanied with drinks.
Your trip concludes after breakfast with transfers arriving at Vienna airport at 07:00 and 09:00.

Trip: Excellent local experts in Vienna, Budapest and Prague. Tour Director excellent.
Service: Great Christmas trip.

Trip: Not enough time in Prague and it would have been better to end in Prague.
Service: We had a wonderful experience and enjoyable trip. However, we would have liked more time in Prague. My suggestion is that the trip ends in Prague. If I had known that it would take a full day to drive back to Vienna, I would have rather spent the day in Prague.

Service: Great service

Trip: Great to see all 4cities in the same trip. Well organized and kept to the schedule. Would have liked 1 more day to relax and do some exploring on my own. Like the use of local guides for they were all so knowledgeable and able to give us an idea of daily living in these cities. It was a wonderful experience to be in these cities over the holidays. So glad I did this trip at this time of year
Service: Tour director Karin was superb- great information on all the cities both past and present, great choices on local guides, food great, hotels great, an overall great trip. Could have had an extra day to relax and take time to explore on our own but realize that it was the biggest holiday time of the year.

Trip: It was just want I wanted to short and sweet over Christmas. It would have been wonderful to stay a few extra days but that wasn't possible for my schedule. Just will make me want to come back another time!
Service: If you are talking about the initial discussion via a telephone call I would say that some of the agents were helpful while others were not. Some agents need to understand that they are the first person and therefore should be a bit more willing to answer questions in a friendly and warmth manner. When my original trip was cancelled the agent I talked to about it was wonderful and I really thanked her for her attention and willingness to answer my questions. (Sorry but I didn't get her name).

Trip: Prague and Budapest deserved longer visits. Since this tour was promoted as a "Christmas Markets Tour," it should have started on a date when there would have been more access to Christmas Markets.
Service: I was impressed with the quality f most of the hotels (The Hilton was disappointing-charging for WiFi and dirty in any ways) and the restaurants and cafes were much better than those on the Trafalgar tour I had finished a couple of days before the Insight tour.

Trip: Visiting the Christmas markets with their decorations, stalls, and festive atmosphere, admiring the architecture of the cities, learning some of the history of the people and countries, sampling and savouring the food -- all the wonderful sights, sounds and smells -- of Vienna, Budapest, Bratislava, and Prague -- the itinerary had the right balance and mix -- well planned, organized, and of course, so enjoyable for us!
Service: Vienna, Budapest and Prague Christmas Markets from Dec. 2 to 8, 2018 was simply magical -- so memorable, so festive and enjoyable because the customer care and service was first rate and helped to make this one of the best trips we have had with Insight Vacations! To our Tour Director and Driver and post now for you to read, thank you Karina and Frank for making our trip so smooth, fun and safe!
