  2. Day 2

    Welcome to Cairo.

A country rich in wonders and mysteries awaits you. You will be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel.

  3. Day 3

    The Egyptian Museum and Citadel.

Meet at 08:00 to begin your city sightseeing with your Egyptologist at the world-famous Egyptian Museum. Starring among its attractions is the amazing treasure recovered from Tutankhamun's tomb. Sightseeing continues at the Citadel where you enjoy breathtaking views over the whole city. Salah El-Din started the Citadel in the 12th century, but it owes its present outline to Mohammed Ali, whose Great Alabaster Mosque is the next stop. Later, you will have free time to enjoy as you wish. In the evening, get to know your Travel Director and fellow guests over a Welcome Drink at the hotel. Afterwards, take your seats at the magical Sound and Light Show at the Great Pyramids which literally illuminates the history of Giza - an unforgettable introduction to the world of ancient Egypt.

  4. Day 4

    The Great Pyramids of Giza.

Gain a deeper understanding of the last remaining Wonder of the Ancient World during a visit to Giza with your Egyptologist. Meet the enigmatic Sphinx crouching at the foot of Chephrenís Causeway and venture inside one of the magnificent pyramids. Nearby lies Memphis, capital of the Old Kingdom, where you can see the colossal statue of Rameses II and the great Alabaster Sphinx. Continue to Sakkara to view the Step Pyramid of Zoser I; dating from 2686 B.C., it's the oldest in the world. Enjoy free time in the afternoon.

  5. Day 5

Fly to Luxor, Cruise the Nile.

Fly to Luxor and visit the huge temple complex of Karnak. Walk through the avenue of ram-headed sphinxes to stand among the columns of the Hypostyle Hall. Transfer to your cruise ship. After lunch on-board, visit Luxor Temple which was unearthed by Mariette in the 1860s.

  6. Day 6 - Relaxed Start

Valley of the Kings to Edfu.

Travel by air-conditioned coach to the west bank of the Nile to see the Colossi of Memnon, and visit both the Temple of Hatshepsut and Valley of the Kings, where many pharaohs were buried. Visit a working bakery and witness the local artisans making authentic Egyptian bread. Return to your cruise boat and sail via the Esna Lock to Edfu.

  7. Day 7

From the Temple of Horus to Aswan.

Visit the Temple of Horus at Edfu, dedicated to the Falcon God. Before continuing on to Aswan, sail to Kom Ombo to visit the only temple in Egypt dedicated to two gods: the crocodile-headed Sobek and falcon-headed Horus the Elder. In the evening, don your traditional Egyptian attire called galabeyas, for a fun-filled Egyptian dinner and galabeya party.

  8. Day 8 - Relaxed Start

Aswan’s High Dam and Nile Felucca.

In the morning, visit the Aswan High Dam and Granite Quarries to see the enormous Unfinished Obelisk. Travel by motorboat to the Temple of Isis, rising from the waters of the Nile on the Island of Philae. Later, on a traditional Nile Felucca, meet a sailor and learn the art of sailing this ancient craft. As the sun starts to fade, enjoy colonial-style high tea at the historic Old Cataract Hotel.

  9. Day 9 - Relaxed Start

Free Time in Aswan and back to Cairo.

In the morning, disembark your cruise ship and enjoy time at leisure in Aswan. Why not join an optional experience by air to the magnificent Temples of Rameses II at Abu Simbel? Otherwise, spend the morning as you wish. There are many points of interest to enjoy; the Botanic Gardens, Elephantine Island, the Aga Khan Mausoleum, or soak up the African atmosphere in the Nubian bazaar. Later, transfer to the airport for your return flight to Cairo for the night.

  10. Day 10 - Relaxed Start

    Depart Cairo.

Your journey ends after breakfast with transfers to the airport.

Trip: As a history major and former high school teacher, I of course loved virtually every place we went and the home visit as well. The young Egyptian with his English accent was delightful!. However, I did not feel that we had enough time in Cairo to investigate the city. I was particularly interested in the Coptic religion and churches and also the story of the Jews in Cairo. This was totally missing! I'd say add another day even if the cost would be higher. Or make it optional like the trip to Abu Simbel. Thoroughly enjoyed my optional trip to Alexandria as well. Must say that the Old Cataract Hotel inAswan couldn't been more fun-totally charming and gorgeous. Looked as if Downton Abby characters would pop out in for high tea. Not exactly an issue of the itinerary but wasn't thrilled with the food on the boat. Would much prefer to order off a menu than eat off of a buffet line. I do know that most travelers, especially Americans, would disagree! To be fair all of the staff in the dining room on board were very gracious and helpful.

Service: Most of our guides were very good-well versed in Egypt's amazing history and proficient in English. They were also personable and good company to our group of four. For the most part I felt well taken care of. FYI, I trip extremely well and made sure our main guides and drivers were well compensated. (I always worry about not tipping enough and my Australian buddies were worried about tipping too much!) Incidentally a driver named Ibrahim was particularly terrific on navigating Cairo streets. No easy task. A notable exception was at the guide who was responsible for getting me to the airport in Aswan to fly to Abu Simbel. For some reason he had to make special arrangements to get all of my luggage from the cruise boat to the airport and simply left me out in front of the terminal to wait for it. Don't recall if I ever saw him again. I am an experienced traveler and certainly could handle it, and other guides (Insights?) helped me as well. Perhaps the Insight employees who are higher up in the pecking order feel more responsibility.

Trip: I recommend this itinerary over others, due to it packing in all the sights in a shorter period of time. We felt this was a good value for the money over longer tours.

Service: Insight took excellent care of us in Egypt, including security guards in two cities. The tour guide had assistance from Insight and the local tour operator whenever he needed it.

Trip: Much packed into day! home visits! Saw the highlights we expected plus lots more! Narrated by an intelligent energetic guide. A security guard accompanied us incondpicuously and eased any fears we might have had. Attention to bottled water and ssfe food. Never bored.

Service: Variety of activities and modes of transportation. Helping a senior get medications with patience. Our guide Hany called mohammed in Cairo to call Marriott an d find our clothes inadvertently left in closet after an early wake up call. So appreciative!

Trip: The first three days were very difficult as I was tired but the bus was very comfortable to Take naps. Once we got on the boat cruise the trips were very relaxed and enjoyable. I learned a lot and the itinerary was very informative and a great opportunity.

Service: Hany who was my tour guide made me feel very safe as a single woman traveling in the Middle East. I felt like I had come home and had gained an entire family. He always took care of me and made sure that I was safe. I will continue to use insight vacations and I highly recommend it for any single traveler especially if you were going to a country with a different culture I need a guide to help you navigate through day-to-day activities.
