What to Eat in Jordan

Premium Dining on Every Tour

Jordan dishes pull inspiration from many of the same places that their Lebanese, Israeli, and Saudi Arabian neighbors do. Rice, yogurt, lentils, and lamb are common staples, as are traditional Bedouin foods like wild berries and mansaf.

The best introduction to Jordan cuisine is through its national dish: mansaf. This traditional Bedouin meal is a plate of sherak flatbread and steamed rice beneath lamb shank.

If you desire Bedouin-style barbecue, zarb is the desert Jordan dish for you. Meat and vegetables are arranged on a rack then cooked on hot coals buried in the sand.

During a cold morning in the Jordanian desert, a hot cup of shorbat adas will warm you up. This lentil soup is a spiced and is often drank.

Did You Know?

Petra is one of the world’s oldest, and unexplored, cities.

The ancient city of Petra is one of the New 7 Wonders of the World and one of the main reasons people travel to Jordan. Although so many Jordan tours are designed around this 400 BC UNESCO World Heritage site, only an approximate 85% of this stunning place has been explored by archaeologists. It was only rediscovered by the Western world in the 1800s and there are countless temples, tombs, and more to explore within Petra.
