What to Eat in Romania

Premium Dining on Every Tour

Romanian cuisine has the hallmarks of Eastern European foods, with rice, cabbage, polenta, and minced grilled meats quite popular. Do be sure to try French food, such as eclairs; France has had a deep influence on Romanian cuisine and culture.

Mămăligă is on nearly every menu and is a Romania food that’s almost inescapable. This polenta is made from a yellow maize flour as either a side dish or base.

Romanian cabbage rolls, or sarmale, are a comfort food that need no additional flair on the plate. Order these meat and rice stuffed rolls are a favourite in Romanian cuisine.

Mititei is not the largest of Romanian dishes but it’s certainly one of the most familiar. These small rolls of ground meat, a popular street food, are seasoned and grilled.
