Egypt’s vast wealth of antiquities take centre stage here. Marvel at Karnak, the Pyramids and Sphinx, Tutankhamun’s treasure, and the ubiquitous hieroglyphics.

  1. Day 1

    Arrive in Cairo.

Welcome to the timeless land of the Pharaohs. On arrival at Cairo International Airport, you will be met and transferred to your hotel.

  2. Day 2

    Cairo Sightseeing.

Meet your Tour Director at 08:00 for a detailed briefing. Then ascend to the Citadel, for breathtaking views over the city and a visit to the Alabaster Mosque. Continue to Tahrir Square, the focal point of the 2011 Egyptian Revolution, and the Egyptian Museum. Among the many exhibits are the fabulous artefacts recovered from the tomb of King Tutankhamun. In the evening, get to know your Travel Director, a professionally trained Egyptologist, and fellow guests over a Welcome Drink at the hotel. Later, drive to the pyramids to witness the magical Sound & Light Show - an unforgettable introduction to the world of Ancient Egypt.

  3. Day 3

Fly to Luxor, Cruise the Nile.

Fly to Luxor and visit the huge temple complex of Karnak. Walk through the avenue of ram-headed sphinxes to stand among the columns of the Hypostyle Hall before transferring to your cruise ship. After lunch on-board, visit Luxor Temple, which was unearthed by Mariette in the 1860s.

  4. Day 4

    Exploring Dendera and Edfu.

Visit the Temple of Hathor in Dendera, one of the best preserved temples in Egypt. It contains a rare depiction of Cleopatra and her son Caesarian, whose father was Julius Caesar. Return to your cruise boat and sail via the Esna Lock to Edfu.

  5. Day 5

    Temple of Horus to Aswan.

Visit the Temple of Horus at Edfu, dedicated to the Falcon God. After exploring this magnificent site, your cruise continues to Aswan. In the evening, don your galabeyas (traditional Egyptian attire), for a fun-filled Egyptian dinner and galabeya party.

  6. Day 6 - Relaxed Start

Aswan’s High Dam & Temple of Isis.

Sightseeing includes a visit to Aswan's High Dam and Granite Quarries to see the enormous Unfinished Obelisk. Travel by motorboat to the Temple of Isis, rising from the waters of the Nile on the Island of Philae. The rest of the day is free to relax and enjoy the facilities on your cruise boat.

  7. Day 7 - Relaxed Start

    Feluccas and High Tea.

On a traditional Nile Felucca, meet a sailor and learn the art of sailing this ancient craft. As the sun starts to fade, enjoy Colonial-style high tea at the historic Old Cataract Hotel, just like Winston Churchill and Agatha Christie once did before you.

  8. Day 8 - Relaxed Start

Free time and on to Kom Ombo.

With the morning free, perhaps join the optional experience of travelling to the temples of Abu Simbel, by air? Later, sail to Kom Ombo to visit the only double temple of Egypt, dedicated to the two gods the crocodile-headed Sobek and falcon-headed Horus the Elder.

  9. Day 9 - Relaxed Start

    Cruising the Nile to Luxor.

Your cruise continues along the life-giving waters of the Nile. In the evening, arrive back in Luxor where there is time for shopping and sightseeing.

  10. Day 10

Explore Luxor and fly to Cairo.

Disembark from your cruise and travel by air-conditioned coach to the west bank of the Nile. See the Colossi of Memnon and visit both the Temple of Hatshepsut and the Valley of the Kings, where many pharaohs were buried. Visit a working bakery and witness the local artisans making authentic Egyptian bread. Later, transfer to the airport for your return flight to Cairo.

  11. Day 11

After breakfast, drive to Memphis, the famous capital of the ancient world. See the colossal statue of Ramses II and the Great Alabaster Sphinx. Continue to Sakkara, to see the Step Pyramid of King Zoser, the oldest pyramid in the world, dating back to 2,700 BC. In the afternoon, it's on to Giza with your Egyptologist to explore the magnificent pyramids and come face-to-face with the enigmatic Sphinx. Trip: Perfect itinerary.....but I wish there had been one free day in Luxor for shopping at high quality stores not far from where M/S Medea was docked.

Service: I have to say I have never been on a tour that included so many fabulously amazing sights!! The Mariott Hotel was a WOW on all fronts!!! The M/S Medea was really lovely with super service and incredible food!! But the very best part of the tour was Mohamed Attia, a very well spoken tour guide, a really intelligent man who is in love with his country's archiological history!!! And Attia has a fun personality!!!! Thank you Insight Vacations.....

Trip: All the extras we did were great. Balloon ride and guide on Nubian Village tour were special

Service: The Insight team in Egypt was awesome. They took care of us from the moment they could in the airport until we were through security on our way home. I felt well informed by our guide at all times. The ship was clean, the food was good and the staff was really nice. I am recommending this trip to my friends. I would have liked more pre-trip information such as what was appropriate to wear.

Trip: The fact that we chose to do eleven days proved to be a smart decision. So much to see, and seeing is believing! So magnificent to step back in time and have such a person as Hany explain the history and significance of Egypt's incredible ancient structures. Hany is a very caring person and so passionate about his country, culture and of course the history, a category in which he has so much knowledge and is able to pass it on to others in an uncomplicated manner. We found the overall itinerary, although busy, still thoroughly enjoyable due to Hany's foresight, as we were a small group of eight, he had us up and about early to beat the midday heat and the crowds. Hany always ensured our day was well structured with enough time to relax. From busy Cairo, the flight to Luxor, cruise to Aswan and flight to Abu Simbal, we were always keen to visit more ancient sites under Hany's guidance. For us it was a trip of a lifetime. Well done Hany and Insight Vacations. We have highly recommended this tour (and Hany) to our friends. Regards John and Eileen Herridge

Service: On behalf of my wife (Eileen) and I, we would like to congratulate Insight Vacations and particularly our Tour Director, Sara Tuppen Veloso, for providing us with an amazing tour of Portugal. Sara's professional approach to all aspects of our tour was first class. Her organisational skills, subject knowledge and pleasant personality ensured that not only us, but the other thirty odd people on the eleven day tour, was a seamless experience! Thank you Sara and Insight Vacations, we have already highly recommended your organisation to others, since arriving back in Australia. We are glad to be given this opportunity to provide feedback on our Tour Director (Hany Atta) from the Splendours of Egypt tour. As a Tour Director and individual, Hany Atta ticks ALL the boxes! He is a very special human being. He guided our small group in a very safe, caring and personal manner. He provided us with a well structured program, always organised and prepared for the day ahead. HIs ability to pass on his vast knowledge of Egypt's ancient history was delivered to us in a captivating manner that was uncomplicated and therefore allowed us to have a greater understanding of the culture and magnificent ancient structures we visited. As we were a small group (8), Hany made our tour very personalised referring to us as "the family" and we believe this assisted with the group of different nationalities gelling together and making the whole experience most enjoyable. For us a life changing experience - thank you Hany and Insight Vacations. Regards John and Eileen Herridge.

Trip: Our tour guide was excellence with all of his knowledge on the temples, and other things. Couldn't ask for a greater tour guide. His name was Hany Atta

Service: I was a little disappointed with the company informing me about the side trips that you could purchase. No word was pass on to me. Ok I went through my travel agent. I also didn't like to going into a shop to look at the way things were made and then have a salesman follow you around and bugging you about buying something. I almost walked out of a couple places because I felt like I HAD to buy something. I pointed that out to our tour guide.

Trip: The itinerary was well thought out and offered us all that we needed to have a special vacation. We will recommenced it to friends.

Service: Our guide was tremendous and with that and the general organization of the trip, it was super. The 10 of us on the trip had a great time together -- we left each other as friends. The historical knowledge of the area is mind boggling. The variety of activities was excellent. Some of the activities were not included but offered to us as extras -- several of which we chose to include. Our guide helped us organize those activities. The boat was super as well as the other means of transportation. We all enjoyed most of the food and left the tables quite satisfied as the cooks offered a wonderful variety. The swim deck and bars offered space to relax, and we did. All was great.
